The HUFA forest
In the HUFA forest, we are striving for a sustainable forest management. This consists of a variety of measures:
- in an annual cycle, no more wood is removed from the forest than can grow again.
- New trees are planted with the goal of creating mixed cultures. The individual root depths of different plant species consume nutrients in different layers of the soil.
- Trees are felled so that light can penetrate to the forest floor. This enables the remaining trees to grow better; a natural rejuvenation is achieved.
